Multi Factor Authentication Set-up | MFA
Overview
Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) is an electronic authentication method in which a user is granted access to certain applications,
only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of verification, such as a code from a text message or a phone call to verify identity.
How to set up MFA
- Open a web browser and navigate to office.com
- Sign in with your district email and password
- You should be prompted to set up MFA
- Select Authentication phone from the dropdown
5. Pull down the drop down and select "United States (+1)"
6. In the box directly next to United States, add your phone number beginning with the area code (cell phone, classroom/desk phone, home phone number or TEAMS phone number)
7. Choose which method you would like to use. If you choose Text, you will be sent a verification code to enter. If you choose Call me, you will receive a phone call and be prompted to press the # (pound key) on the phone
**Using a personal device is your choice. If you choose not to, use the "Call Me" feature to set up your class phone or designated Teams number. (Keep in mind, you may not have access to your classroom phone if you are prompted for MFA when away from your classroom.)
After setting up MFA - Sign out of office.com and restart your computer
Setting up multiple authentication methods
The most common verification method of MFA is using a cell phone. Other options include using your district phone number, a home phone number, your dedicated Teams number (if applicable), or the Microsoft Authenticator app (on your mobile device). It is recommended to register at least 2 authentication methods in case you do not have access to the default method at any point.
1. Open a web browser and navigate myapps.microsoft.com
2. View Account
3. Security info - here you will find options to change your default sign-in method, add additional sign-in methods, change phone number or delete methods no longer in use.
When you have multiple authentication methods set up, you will be able to choose another method of verification when prompted for MFA.
It will look similar this (options may vary depending on what authentication methods are setup for the individual account):
Error Messages
If you receive an error the next time you open OneNote, Outlook, OneDrive and Teams on your computer.
1. Uncheck the box on the next page and select OK
2. Allow the device to register then, restart your computer
974 Prefix
Some classroom phone numbers have a prefix of 974 instead of 973. If your classroom number starts with 974, follow these steps:
1. Select Office phone
2. Select United States for country
3. Enter the number "316-973-4270" in the phone line option
4. Enter your 5 digit extension beginning with 4-####. (The 5-digit extension can be found on the classroom phone.)
