Streaming Services in the Classroom
Overview
Wichita Public Schools currently purchases an Umbrella License with the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (mplc.org). To ensure copyright compliance is followed, district employees MUST check to see if a certain piece of media is covered by our Umbrella MPLC License prior to showing the media to district staff and students. It's important to note that the District does not endorse ANY use of video content that breaches licensing and user agreements.
The movies production company will have to be listed in the approved section of the MPLC list in order for the film to be approved.
Steps to find the Distributor or Production Company of a film/movie

Navigate to IMDB.com and search for the movie or film title
- Select "All Topics"
- Select "Company credits"
- The production company will be listed under "Production Companies"
Steps to find if the production company falls under USD 259 Umbrella License
- Open the MPLC.com list
- Use the filter to search by the production company.
OR
- Ctrl + F will bring up a search box to search for the production company
Understanding the MPLC list:

If the production company is listed in the MPLC.com list (in black font), the movies produced fall under the umbrella clause.
- If the production company is listed in the moratorium section (in red font), the movie titles/films are NOT approved to stream.
- If the production company is NOT listed in the MPLC.com list, the movies titles/films are NOT approved to stream.
Unauthorized Streaming Content
- Original movies produced by the streaming service (Netflix Originals, Prime Originals)
- Production companies listed in RED under the Moratorium section in the MPLC Producer list.
- Production companies NOT listed in the MPLC Producer list.
